한미 6자수석, '한미중 3자협의' 적극 추진키로 Senior officials from South Korea and the U.S. continued their discussions today... on how to best carry out sanctions on North Korea for its latest series of provocations. On the second day of their high-level talks, chief nuclear envoys from Seoul and Washington agreed to push for trilateral talks including China. Connie Kim has this story. Pushing for trilateral talks involving the top nuclear envoys from South Korea, the U.S. and China to implement UN sanctions and bring progress in North Korea's nuclear issues... This is what South Korea's special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs Kim Hong-Kyun and his U.S. counterpart Sung Kim agreed to during their second round of discussions in Seoul on Tuesday. The decision comes as China recently said it was open to three-way talks between the six party representatives. The two nuclear envoys also saw eye-to-eye on cooperating to make Pyongyang acknowledge that denuclearization is its only choice. Both agreed that stern international measures should be handed down if the North carries out another provocation. Prior to the meeting, foreign minister Yun Byung-se met with Sung Kim and the State Department's coordinator for sanctions policy Daniel Fried. Yun called for Washington to continue its role in implementing the UN sanctions and putting all-out pressure on the reclusive regime. This was in line with the high-level officials' meeting on Monday where senior South Korean and U.S. officials said they are giving their "full vigor and energy" to implementing the sanctions on North Korea. "The U.S. nuclear envoy will continue the effort to build cooperation on implementing the UN sanctions on Pyongyang... when he travels to Vietnam and Cambodia this week,.. nations that have substantial relationships with North Korea.
