(23 May 2018) President Donald Trump says he will know next week whether his planned summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is still on, as his administration looks to keep the historic meeting on track. Speaking from the White House before boarding Marine One on Wednesday, Trump said, "Someday a date will happen," for the North Korea talks, adding, and "It could very well be June 12." On Tuesday, Trump expressed doubts about the June 12 meeting taking place as scheduled when he hosted South Korean President Moon Jae-in at the White House, amid concerns that the North isn't committed to discussing dismantling its nuclear program. Trump also spoke about NAFTA, predicting that U.S. automakers and autoworkers will be "very happy" with the outcome of talks over the North American Free Trade Agreement. He told reporters, "you'll be seeing very soon what I'm talking about." The president's comments came after he tweeted earlier in the day that there will be "big news coming soon" for autoworkers. Trump says both Mexico and Canada are "spoiled" and have been "very difficult to deal with." But he says, "we will win and will win big." Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin has said that efforts to renegotiate the trade agreement could spill into next year. Regarding the controversial meeting Thursday between FBI Director Christopher Wray, National Intelligence Director Dan Coats and Justice Department officials with House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes and House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Trey Gowdy to review secret Justice Department documents, Trump says what he wants is "total transparency." Trump says he wants that from the FBI and from Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the special counsel's investigation into possible coordination between Russia and Trump's 2016 campaign. Democrats have criticized the Republican-only meeting and have asked that it be canceled.
