Tips for new SMP artists

Why am I not seeing ink being deposited on my clients scalp after I make an impression? This can be the result of a few things, poor circulation, nerves, high blood pressure etc. However, a common thing that most artists overlook, especially new artists is that the needle isn’t picking up any pigment or ink. To the artist it seems like the needle is holding ink but that’s because the tip off the needle is coated with the color of the ink. The ink just won’t stay in the needle after you remove it from the ink reservoir. This can be caused by the ink being of poor quality and or it’s not mixed to its proper specifications. Therefore, when you go to make an impression on the scalp there is no ink or pigment being deposited from the needle. To prevent this make sure you always choose a high-quality ink and make sure it’s mixed to its proper specification. In the cases of poor circulation, nerves and high blood pressure try to make your client relax before and during the procedure.
