Retro dad and modern lad presents Sega Saturn Homebrew Games To Watch In 2022. This video is done in the style of a sega saturn TV advert and features games from the recent sega xtreme homebrew game competition. These are my favourite games from the competition and my selection for the games you should watch out for in 2022. However, there was lots of other great games also made for the competition in what was the biggest and best yet!! Here is my opinion/selection of the best 5 games in the competition: 1 / Blue Skies by Xenos Interactive ( engine by Emerald Nova) - This is my selection for the best game in this years competition. It is a game i have been watching the development of for a while now in the excellent development videos. The concept of the game is fairly simple, you fly your plane through a balloon to activate one of the five stages and then fly through each lit balloon in the trail as quickly as you can until you reach the end. However, you will need to avoid crashing into the sea or on land .You have control over the planes speed and this will affect the ability for the plane to make sharp turns. On straights you will want to go full speed, but on sharp turns you will need to reduce the speed. The game is very fun and addictive trying to shave seconds off your previous best times. Another highlight is the selection of music tracks, which are excellent and you can change by pressing the Y button. Well done to Xenos Interactive/emerald nova on the great work they have done on this game and I hope they continue to work on it. / @teamstarlane 2/ CubeCat by 7Shades - CubeCat was my pick for the competition winner last year. The sega saturn does not have an abundance of 3d platform games, so its fantastic to see one of this high quality. The game has seen a number of improvement since last year including upgraded graphics/ effects, a new move, more options, and new enemies. The new stage for level three is very impressive and the music fits the game perfectly. The levels themselves are now bigger with more obstacles in the way of you getting your ball to the desired location such as gates and the new rat enemy. The game is really fun and the signs that give clues on how the game works are a great introduction for people to learning how to play the game. Its impossible not to smile while playing this game. Well done to 7shades on the great update to this game and I can not wait to see what else they have in store for this CubeCat adventure. 3/ Sky Blaster by ReyeMe - This game is a 1 level endless shoot em up that was a blast to play. The object is to try and get the highest score you can and you are able to upgrade your gun ( 3 levels), pick up extra lives, and bombs. I was really impressed with the graphical art style and how fun this game was to play. The ship movement took me a moment to get accustomed to (quite floaty), but once I got going the movement works really well and I was able to dodge bullets/ enemies like a pro. The game is really easy to just pick up and play, with that special something to want you to have another go and beat your best score. Well done to Reyeme and i hope they keep working on the game and add to the great work they have done so far. / gphys26 4/ ZYGO by JBeretta - This is a 2d gem collecting platform game with a twist. Once you complete each of the two levels you can unlock new abilities to transform into a spider (level 1 - can climb walls) and a bat (level 2 - can fly). These abilities can be used for a limited time by finding power ups and can then be used to access previously unreachable areas in the levels. The levels are really fun to explore and the ability to change into animals is an excellent idea. The game is still early in development and there are a few bugs to iron out, but that is to be expected at this stage. Well done to JBeretta and hopefully they continue to work on this game as I think it has really good potential and you have made a great start. / @jberetta6236 5/ Hellslave by XL2 - Undoubtedly, the greatest sega saturn homebrew game ever made. Everyone who watches my channel will know I am a massive fan of this game. In my opinion this game is already the best multiplayer game on the sega saturn and has the potential to be up there with the best single player games.
