Script: Welcome its Raj from 3CB. German international Kai Havertz has officially transferred to Chelsea, with the club displaying a masterclass in how to leverage cash reserves in a financially depressed market. In this video, I’ll detail some of Kai’s world class skills and what makes him a true game-changer for Chelsea Dribbling Kai possesses an elite combination of ball control, balance, strength, and composure - all of which he showcases on this play. Additionally, Kai is extremely quick with his reads - mental speed - already planning his attack prior to receiving the ball and taking on Atleti’s Thomas Partey easily Positioning Kai showcases great positional & spatial awareness & combines it with his mental speed. Here he drops between the lines and then uses his dribble to pull in defenders, with the intent of creating a passing channel. Great synergy with his teammate to time the pass and run. This is an elite, elite play. Kai positions himself into a direct passing channel that’s in the teeth of the defense . He attracts the attention of 6 pairs of eyes and then releases the ball. This is how you decimate defensive structure. Distribution versatility Kai is comfortable passing the ball from multiple spots. Here he drops deeper, sees the far side run, is able to evade the defender, and then plays a perfectly timed & weighted reverse ball. Whereas here Kai operates on the edge of the box, reads the defensive alignment, and plays a fabulous chipped ball to unlock a goal scoring chance. Secondary runs One of Havertz’s distinctive skills is his incisive runs from deep. Here he recognizes the space, runs off the defender’s back shoulder, decelerates slightly to stay onside and maintain passing channel, and then puts the chance away Here’s another example and you can see the full run more clearly. Again, he immediately recognizes the space & attacks it off the back shoulder with pace Situational pace Havertz can often look like he’s just gliding along but when he needs to, he’ll activate the afterburners He also has great short burst speed and here the wherewithal to find a teammate at the far post. Elite play Patience Last but not least, Kai showcases great patience as he often lets the play develop rather than trying to force a ball and plays the right opening at the right time to create gilt-edged scoring chances. Chelsea got themselves a good one and he has an extremely bright future ahead on both the domestic and international stages.
