Czech President Václav Havel on feeling European four years before his country joined the EU. Václav Havel was the last president of Czechoslovakia and its first democratically-elected leader after the fall of communism, as well as the first president of the newly-founded Czech Republic. In 2000 he addressed the European Parliament speaking about the feeling of Europeanness and European unity.
