McCann: Galbraith, Cave, Snyder, McCann, and Wray, December 1, 1987

Part of the Gordon McCann Ozarks Folk Music Collection at Missouri State University's Special Collections and Archives. This recording includes tapes 1 2. It was record in Linden, Missouri on December 1, 1987. Art Galbraith fiddle, Charlene Cave- fiddle, Linda Snider- vocal, Gordon McCann- guitar, Jenny Wray- guitar, unknown- mandolin, others present. Charlene, a widow, was a Campbell. She was a Cousin to Raymond Campbell and Linda Campbell Snyder. She may have been a sister to Carl Campbell. This branch of Christian County Campbells were all musical. Jenny Wray is Charlene’s daughter. Charlene later remarried and moved to Springfield. Merle and Pearl there also. "Flock of Birds" (in G) Raymond usually started with this tune just as Art usually started with “Leather Britches.” Lonnie Robertson usually warmed up with “Liverpool Hornpipe.” Someone talks about seeing an article in Ozarks Mountaineer about Galbraith mentioned Raymond playing “Flock of Birds.” 4. "Missouri Waltz" (in G) 5. "Mississippi Sawyer" (in D) 6. "Ragtime Annie" (in D) Someone asks for “Back Up and Push,” but Art doesn't play it. 7. "Tennessee Wagoner" (in C) 8. "Tennessee Waltz" (in C & G) 9. "I Don’t Love Nobody" (in C) 10. "Grey Eagle" (in A) Linda asks for next, then someone asks for “Beer Before Supper.” 11. "Whiskey Before Breakfast" (in D) Someone asks for “Knocking at the Door,” but Art calls it as the next title. Art usually played it with “Tennessee Wagoner.” Art got the name and tune in North Missouri. It is also similar to “Green Corn.” Someone asks “Wonder who names these pieces?” “The same guy who has 'Whiskey Before Breakfast.'” 12. "Fat Meat and Dumplings" (in C) 13. "Sheamus O’Brien" (in G) Linda asks for the “Ump Pah” waltz. McCann mentions it is called “Tooth Pick Waltz” in Oklahoma. 14. "Ook Pic Waltz" (in G) 15. "Eighth of January" (in D) 16.
