PM confirms Australia’s vaccine approval ‘moving swiftly and safely’

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has spruiked Australia’s coronavirus vaccination campaign, confirming the nation-wide rollout is on schedule and will be administered with safety as the key priority. Addressing the media on Thursday, Mr Morrison said officials were moving “swiftly and safely” to ensure the vaccine was distributed to all Australians in need. “Doing that is critical to public confidence in the vaccine,” he said. “We have set out cautious timetables and outlined them to you over months now. Mr Morrison flagged the health team was working to improve the timeline but warned “we don’t want to make promises we can’t keep, that is incredibly important”. “We know what we know, and we’ll base our information and our timetables on that rather than speculate.” He also confirmed there have been no delays to the introduction of a vaccine into Australia. “It is moving considerably faster than normal vaccination approval processes would occur in Australia,” Mr Morrison revealed. “But without skipping a step, without cutting a corner, ensuring that everything that needs to be tucked is ticked along the way.”
