Maduro’s son sends message as Venezuelan President, wife captured, face charges in US

The son of toppled Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has spoken out after his father and stepmother were captured by U.S. forces Saturday and arraigned at a New York court on Monday. “We are here fulfilling our duties until you return. The country is in good hands, dad,” Nicolas Maduro Guerra said Monday in Caracas. Maduro and his wife, the First Lady Cilia Flores, pleaded not guilty to charges of narco-terrorism, cocaine importation conspiracy and possession of machine guns and destructive devices. Guerra’s message to Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president moments earlier was: “You can count on me, you can count on my family.” The next court date has been set for March 17.
