PROSPERITY AND GOOD FORTUNE HEAVENLY KING MANTRA: oṃ vaiśravaṇaye svāhā Chanted beautifully in Sanskrit! His prosperity and good fortune mantra is: oṃ vaiśravaṇaye svāhā NORMALLY his special day is Lunar 29th each month, when we make special offerings to him for prosperity and the well-being of all beings. (This month July 23.) His sacred animal is the White Snow Lion. Leading the Four Heavenly Kings who "Watch the World" and Protect the Dharma, is none other than the chief Vaisravana (Vaishravana, वैश्रवण or Vessavaṇa (Pali; Tibetan: རྣམ་ཐོས་སྲས་, Namtösé 四大天王之多闻天王 Duōwén Tiānwáng. Bishamonten) known as the “King of the North.” BUDDHIST VIRTUE of UPEKKHA: Each Heavenly King protects one of the Four Buddhist Virtues -- Vaisravana protects equanimity, or upekkhā. He reinforces Equanimity by providing wealth, good fortune, rain, good crops and also strength and victory of virtuous forces. He is also the Protector of Virtuous Warriors! For this reason, he looks like a warrior king, and rides a ferocious magical lion or snow lion. Vaisravana is the Chief of the Heavenly Kings who Watch and Protect the world and the Dharma. PERMISSION TO PRACTICE: No permission is required to chant this prosperity and good fortune mantra, the mantra of victory. SYMBOLISM: He holds his magical Mongoose who vomits jewels and gold. He is a warrior who protects the land from all danger. He is the king of the Yakshas and the North. He often rides a mystical lion or snow lion. He is yellow or golden (and if he is in a slightly wrathful aspect, he may appear green, like the light before a great thunder storm.) As you chant visualize GOLDEN LIGHT emanating from his heart and entering your heart, bringing you good fortune.
