Lesson 176: Muay Boran Parry Uppercut

Lesson 176: Muay Boran Parry Uppercut

The ancient Muay Thai parry uppercut is usually applied as a counter to the vertical elbow. When your opponent makes a move, step out, parry and throw the uppercut counter. Note that throwing a closed fist underneath the chin is not the most ideal scenario because you can injure your own hand as you throw this strike. This is simply to demonstrate the Muay Boran technique in literal terms as it was shown. In today's fighting environment, it would be better to replaced it with an open palm strike. However, if we apply the closed fist, we can target more of the neck area so that we do not hit the bone area of the chin directly with our fists.
