Anne Frank's stepsister Eva Schloss recounts horrors of Auschwitz

VIEWER DISCRETION IS ADVISED. Eva Schloss is an Austrian-English Holocaust survivor, memoirist and stepdaughter of Otto Frank, the father of Margot and diarist Anne Frank. She devotes her life to educating others around the world about the importance of tolerance and respect for difference. Schloss was born in Vienna to a Jewish family. Shortly after the annexation of Austria by Germany in 1938, her family emigrated to Belgium and finally to the Netherlands. She lived in the same apartment block in Amsterdam as Anne Frank, and the girls, only a month apart in age, were sometimes playmates from ages 11 to 13. In May 11th 1944, Eva's 15th birthday, the Schloss family was captured by the Nazis after being betrayed by a double agent in the Dutch underground, and transported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camps. Her father and brother did not survive the ordeal, but she and her mother were barely alive when they were freed in 1945 by Soviet troops. In this emotional movie, the posthumous stepsister of one of the war's most famous casualties, Anne Frank, describes the horrors of Auschwitz. One of the biggest moments in the death camp for Eva was finding her mom alive after thinking she got killed in the gas chambers. Eva's mom Geiringer married Otto Frank in November 1953. They spent a large part of their time educating people about the importance of Anne Frank's diary and the horrors that the Jews experienced during the Holocaust. Their commitment led to the creation of the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam.
