Three new Chinese models, the BYD Seal, BYD Dolphin, and XPeng P7, have recently undergone testing by Euro NCAP, the European branch of NCAP. All three vehicles received the maximum five-star rating, demonstrating that Chinese manufacturers prioritize safety just as much as their European counterparts. Euro NCAP's updated testing system takes into account the evolving automotive landscape in Europe. One of the required safety systems is CPD (child protection detection), which alerts if a child is left inside the car, particularly useful in hot weather conditions. While BYD's tested vehicles have CPD, XPeng's P7 lacks this functionality, resulting in a lower score of 81% in the Child Occupant category compared to BYD's 87%. Euro NCAP is the first organization worldwide to establish technical requirements for such a system. Additionally, Euro NCAP's 2023 rating system considers heavy storm conditions and flash flooding, which have become more frequent in Europe. Two tests evaluate the automatic unlocking of car doors when submerged in water and the duration of functional electric windows underwater. All three vehicles received extra points for these tests. In traditional crash tests, all three vehicles performed exceptionally well in adult and child crash protection. They also offer various on-road safety features like lane and speed assistance. Euro NCAP believes that the intense competition in the EV market is compelling car manufacturers to prioritize safety. European buyers have high expectations for safety standards and features, motivating Chinese manufacturers to keep up with their European rivals. Source: https://tech-oracle.com
