082871 Rod Stewart's first appearance on AT40 + twelve tidbits

49 years ago today, Rod Stewart entered Billboard's pop chart at #36 with "Maggie May / Reason To Believe", and stormed up the chart to reach the pinnacle just five weeks later, where he stayed for five weeks. His first release also hit #1 in the UK, Canada and Australia. However, it wasn't smooth sailing for Rod after that. His next big smash, "Sailing" (1975), reached the Top 10 in at least 7 other countries, going all the way to #1 in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand ... but managed a meagre #58 in the USA. However, the following year, Rod took "Tonight's The Night" all the way to #1, as he did in 1978 with "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy". Eight Top 10s would follow before Rod's fourth and final #1 would come: "All For Love" in 1993 with Bryan Adams and Sting. Rod's final appearance on AT40 was at #39 in 1998 with "Ooh La La".
