Boris Johnson rips up Covid restrictions as he unveils plans for July 19

Boris Johnson has said the time to reopen society is now - or never - as he reveals plans to replace legal restrictions with personal judgment from July 19. Ahead of the final go-ahead to Freedom Day, which will be given next Monday after reviewing the data, the Prime Minister confirmed Step Four will see an end to compulsory masks, working from home, the one-metre social distancing rule, rule of six indoors and limits on gatherings of more than 30. Speaking from Downing Street, Mr Johnson said if he does not reopen society in the next few weeks then "we must ask ourselves - when will we be able to return to normal?".
