Trump warns North Korea will be met with "fire and fury" if it threatens U.S.

"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening... beyond a normal statement, and as I said they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power, the likes of which this world has never seen before." Those comments were quickly criticized by both Democrat and Republican lawmakers. The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, John McCain, urged the President to be sure he can follow through before making such statements, adding that great leaders don't make threats unless they are ready to act. Democrats also slammed Trump for his comments, calling them bombastic and unhinged. Maryland Sen. Ben Cardin, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said Trump lacks the temperament and judgment to deal with serious crises and that Washington should not make the same kind of provocative statements as Pyongyang. Amid the heightened tension, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Dunford, is scheduled to hold talks with his South Korean counterpart Lee Sun-jin next week to discuss ways to better deal with Pyongyang's threats and to strengthen security cooperation in the region.
