August Goals: Fouette Club! And July In Review... w/ Ballerina Badass

Hey Dancers and Dance Fans! August is already well underway, and I have started a Fouetté Club at the studio where I am training with some of the other dancers – we meet after every class and work on our fouettés! Pretty obvious, huh. But seriously, having the motivation and encouragement of others around you really helps, and, at least for me, it keeps me committed to my goal! Which is 32 fouettés. Yeah. Well, my dad always liked to share that quote “Aim for the moon, and even if you miss, you’ll fall among the stars!” and while I know some curmudgeons could argue that one would fall to a hard, messy death on earth, I choose to believe the quote’s promise of guaranteed stardom ☺. So, I am aiming high with 32 fouettés in the hopes that I will end up with a solid 16 by the end of August. As for July, it was a hard month. I worked on my back flexibility, and while some progress was made, it also felt like I moved backwards a bit due to other parts of my body re-aligning and shifting and improving. It’s like “one step forward, two steps back.” But ultimately, I still feel like I am moving forward. I also feel like small and subtle is the way to go for me right now. Meaning, those slow, deceptively simple (yet physically VERY challenging) Pilates exercises that promote spinal mobility will be the key elements to my overall spinal flexibility success!
