This experiment is the combination of pure sodium metal and water. When the sodium metal enters the water it discharges all of it’s electrons leaving the metal positively charged. This charge repels itself and explodes! This reaction also releases hydrogen gas which catches on fire due to the reaction emitting heat (exothermic reaction). The result is a pretty intense almost firework display of light.
