How To Polish Cow and Bison Horns

Got a dull, crusty old horn you want to bring back to life? In this video, I show you how to polish cow horns and bison horns to a smooth, shiny finish using just three things: sandpaper, linseed oil, and a cheap buffing attachment from Home Depot. The key to a great result is working in stages — I walk through 7–8 different sandpaper grits, starting at 100, and show you exactly how to go with the grain of the horn (not against it) to avoid scratching. Finish with a couple of drops of linseed oil and buff it out to whatever level of shine you like. One thing I want to make clear: the goal isn't to sand off all the character — it's to smooth out rough areas and bring up a clean polish while keeping the horn looking natural.
