Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones cleared any possible air on where he stands with NFL players who choose to protest during the national anthem. After the Cowboys 35-31 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday, Jones said "if there's anything that is disrespectful to the flag, then we will not play.OK? Understand? If we are disrespecting the flag, then we won't play. Period. "The Associated Press reports that the 74-year-old longtime owner and supporter of President Donald Trump said that the flag and anthem or more important than his team's unity. His unequivocal response was said to come after a reporter asked him about Vice President Mike Pence's protest in leaving the game in Indianapolis earlier Sunday after players knelt during the national anthem. After Pence left, he tweeted that "I left today's Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem."These comments from Jones come two weeks after he was one of the NFL owners who stood in solidarity with his players by kneeling arm-in-arm before the national anthem.Once the anthem started, though, Jones and the team rose for the song. Afterwards, Trump tweeted that he and Jones spoke about the increased player protests and heated exchanges between the president and the NFL.The 71-year-old president tweeted Sept. 26 that "Jerry is a winner who knows how to get things done.Players will stand for Country!"The increased NFL player protests come after Trump verbally attacked players kneeling during the anthem, by saying "wouldn't you love to see one of the NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say 'get that son of a b**** off the field right now?"In response, more than 200 players opted to protest on Sept.24, and several others raised their fists. The weekend before, only six NFL players were said to have protested during the national anthem.
