The Syrian civil war is now in its fifth year... and a new UN-backed report shows the bleak reality that face ordinary citizens... struggling to hang on. The study showed that the wars... involving both the Syrian government and the Islamic State group... have cut life expectancy in the country by 20 years... to less than 56 years. It also found that 80 percent of Syrians live in poverty... amid "obliterated" institutions and infrastructure. Meanwhile, a UNICEF representative warned that the country risked losing an entire generation of children... with the number of children suffering from the devastating conflict nearing 15-million... many of them trapped in areas cut off from help due to the fighting. Several aid groups... including Oxfam and Save the Children... criticized the U-N... for not applying its own resolutions... which authorized its aid missions to enter Syria without the government′s permission.
