MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) The Mobile Fire Department mapped out its plan, as their first responders braces for $1.4 million dollars in cuts. Funding shortage comes as a result of the 2014 revised budget. As of right now, the shortage will decrease the cadet program by half, reduce overtime and sit out two station engines. None of the fire stations are expected to close. The plan goes into effect this week. Chief Randy Smith says he will monitor response times throughout the department on a weekly basis. He says the cutbacks will not impact public safety in the city.
