Colombiana Fight Scene Does This Anchorman Joke SERIOUSLY?

Close your eyes (or don’t, I really don’t care) and think about your favourite fight scene in your favourite modern, Western movie. Do you have one picked out? Think of two or three more. Ready? Perfect! I’m here to ruin them for you. You’re welcome! If you wanna help me stay awake to make more videos, consider getting me a coffee! (^_^) https://ko-fi.com/fightscenefilmschool Before we begin, remember that hilarious Anchorman fight scene, where they all seem to pull weapons out of nowhere? It’s an extreme, comedic example of what directors and choreographers should never, ever, EVER do. Ever. I’ve talked about the best way to use props before (see THIS video of mine:    • Jackie Chan Famous Ladder Fight Scene Anal...   ). Props add an extra element of fun, visual interest, and depth to a fight scene, when done right. Bad prop use can ruin a scene, which can in turn spoil the whole film for the viewer (and in an “I never want to watch this piece of garbage again” way, not in a “Bruce Willis was dead the whole time” way). Clearly the directors and choreographers featured here didn’t take the time to watch that video all the way through. A few people praised Zoe Saldana in Colombiana, and honestly, Zoe is usually great, but there is one particular fight scene that ruins the entire movie. (Also, side note, this scene also fails the block to hit ratio test miserably – see THIS video of mine:    • If you Think Fight Scenes are About HITS, ...   It’s really a boring fight all around.) Now compare the Anchorman fight scene to the one featuring Zoe Saldana in Colombiana above. It’s virtually the same!! A fight scene parody in a comedy should not share the same features of a fight scene in an action film. It’s infuriating! Knowing how, or more importantly when, to introduce props to the audience is crucial. And SO easy to do; in some cases, it almost seems harder not to introduce the prop ahead of time. It’s mind boggling that so many modern Western films ignore this very basic principle. Did you enjoy the comedic effect of that Anchorman fight scene? Did you want to like Zoe Saldana in Colombiana but just couldn’t because those fight scenes were just awful? Then you’ll love my YouTube channel!
