Jared Leto winning an Oscar for his portrayal of a trans woman in "Dallas Buyer's Club" and the focus on Piers Morgan's interview with Janet Mock have something in common - and the answer isn't that trans women are beat up by cis media (though they are) so much as the fact that trans women can't pick a consistent position. Being trans either matters or it doesn't.
