recorded February 27th 2023. on this edition of 1+1 @Yourismouter I was so honored to have back on this program Dr. Jared Ball who is of Professor of Communications and Africana Studies at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. and author of The Myth and Propaganda of Black Buying Power whose second edition is coming out sometime this year. He is co-founder and regular contributor to Black Power Media where he hosts his own show I Mix What I Like and for all of his journalism, his studies, old podcast and radio shows and current ones check out imixwhatilike.org . on this edition of "Make Me Wanna Holler" all things the Black Diaspora from Turtle Island to Britain and elsewhere and special Black History Month Special I invited Jared on to discuss briefly the legacy of W.E. Dubois and that of Black Panther Veteran Eddie Conway former Real News Network Correspondent and host of 'Rattling the Bars' who sadly passed away very recently. But much of the program was spent with Jared Ball mythbusting on Black Capitalism and challenging the models often used by Black advocates from left reformists to Black left nationalists and other other radicals that the Black community could model themselves like the Chinatowns that exist in the US, or negotiate how money is distributed within the Black Communities in which the profits that is made from the various businesses however big or small some of those profits should be kept in the community to help with social mobility and 'spreading wealth within that community' and the model of a community doing that is often Jewish American communities of various White European backgrounds. Or having more Black owned stores in which instead of getting the small convenient store or night shop to a Korean merchant to head that shop, give it the Black family or Black small businessman in the community. Jared pushes back and pushes back hard on these arguments and his counter arguments many I think will find interesting. Jared also pushes back against an argument many Black Leftists and other Radicals use that there was once a glory age of the Black community thriving despite the indignity of Jim Crow apartheid, and Black business did have a thriving local economy comparable to that of Chinatown, Little Italy, or mostly white Jewish communities thriving known as Black Wall Street that was in Tulsa, Oklahoma which was violently torched in a pogrom that happened in the US. Jared does some mythbusting on that and explains what really happened AFTER the hideous pogroms were unleashed which will surprise many. We also talk about in his book which I'm still currently reading his argument that Black people must team up with the most radical sectors of the Latinx, Indigenous, and white Communities their working class to demand a redistribution of wealth and gain political power to radically adress or readress the social contract of this country. And if that's not enough we even explain how capitalism like how it exists in Africa, is all the proof you need that capitalism doesn't work, but we get into why even the most left nationalists in the Black community buy into some form of Black Capitalism.
