A tribute to all who were affected by the 1 October, 2017 tragedy. October 1, of 2022 marks five years - #vegasstronger #vegasstrong #honor58 I hope to remind all audiences that though headlines fade quickly, the distress emanating from these tragedies painfully reverberates forever in the hearts of those who have fallen victim. It was only eleven minutes - Five Years After Desert heat autumn nights Busy sidewalks Vegas lights The 91 is heeding signs Lambs in order, forging lines Country sounds are in the queue The lambs compressed but they get through Foretelling of a coming rue, a brooding cauldron, no one knew? And here we are, five years after Trailing tears, no more laughter Broken lives, that ache repair Still five years after, in the air And here we are, so much gone Searching for a breaking dawn Innocence is lost in vain Scars are healing but not the pain The evening cracked torrential shower of leaden rain from on the tower the unseen eyes of heinous glower stole the stage with a thunderous power Splintered noise across the grounds The voices of a 1,000 rounds Overwhelm the country sounds The playpen’s now the battlegrounds And here we are, five years after Raining tears, no more laughter Shattered lives, that ache repair Reverberations in the air And here we are, once again To pay the price of others’ sin Father you have cast us here To hold a faith that’s disappeared Heros billet on descend Casting light in every bend Lift the lambs from where they’re penned And sweep the blood from where it stemmed So here we are, five years after Painful tears, a search for laughter The tally’s only just begun There’s so much more from 91 Those survivors seek repair A search for solace in the lair So many lambs, but solitaire Still five years after in the air Many of us know someone who was directly or indirectly tied to this event. I had two employees who were at the concert; I have subsequently learned that I am connected to many more attendees. I was in Vegas, two blocks away, as the massacre happened. People started falling - One attendee I know escaped by sheltering with friends behind a portable liquor bar. The other, did not fare so well. I was struck by both the tragedy that was so close to home, and the strength and resilience of so many. As a result, I put pen to paper and sat at the piano. This song was composed for the concert attendees, their families and all others who have become victims of these unpredictable and senseless disruptions to humanity. The Recording I am fortunate to have been able to engage many of the most prestigious musicians in recording history to participate in this project.
