Anchor: For the third installment of the CTS special series "Churches Becoming Self-Reliant Through Spiritual Revival," we introduce the efforts of a church belonging to the Jeonju Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK) General Assembly to assist churches in need of self-reliance. Reporter Jang Hyun-soo reports. Great Joy Church, located in Jeonju. Pastors leading church planters gathered in one place. It was a meeting to share the challenges of ministry and exchange know-how. The pastor present at the center of this gathering was Pastor Baek Yong-sul, who founded Great Joy Church. Established six years ago, the church grew rapidly based on various programs that reflect on the lives and faith of its members—such as "Finding Happiness" and "Heart Healing Counseling"—and the pastor's village evangelism. It achieved self-reliance in the shortest amount of time within the Jeonju Presbytery of the PCK General Assembly and was even selected as a visiting church for the PCK General Assembly Church Planting Training School. Pastor Baek, who harbors a vision to help church planters and their pastors. Knowing the difficulties of church planting ministry myself, I am actively reaching out to more churches across the country. Big Joy Church has established a network with pastors of church planting churches in various regions, including not only Jeonju but also Suncheon, Yeosu, Gwangju, Iksan, Busan, and Gimhae, and is conducting training and seminars to share ministry know-how and promote self-reliance. Interview with Pastor Baek Yong-sul / Jeonju Big Joy Church The training is conducted in small groups once a week for eight weeks and covers topics such as how to increase happiness, establishing a vision for children, and changing the speech habits of congregants. Time is also set aside to share the challenges faced by church planting pastors and to build networks. Pastors belonging to the network say, “Centered around Big Joy Church, church planting pastors met to strengthen fellowship and overcome the loneliness and spiritual slumps that often follow church planting. The congregation shares the same purpose in the church's mission to contribute to missionary expansion by revitalizing these new churches.
