Night of the Living Dead (1968) is a classic horror film directed by George A. Romero. The story follows a group of strangers who take shelter in a remote farmhouse as the dead begin to rise and attack the living. Barbara escapes an early attack and is soon joined by Ben, a calm and resourceful man who tries to organize the group’s survival. Inside the house are other survivors, including a family hiding in the basement. As the night goes on, tensions grow between the characters, especially over whether to stay upstairs or hide in the basement. Outside, the reanimated dead surround the house, slowly increasing in number. Poor decisions, fear, and mistrust within the group prove just as dangerous as the threat outside. The film emphasizes themes of human conflict, social breakdown, and the randomness of survival. The movie is especially known for creating many modern zombie tropes and for its dark, realistic tone.
