Force-balance mechanism analogy using pencils
A common source of confusion among students when studying force-balance pneumatic systems is to look at the lever systems in terms of motion*, which is incorrect. Force-balance systems need to be analyzed in terms of *force only. This simple pencil demonstration shows just how forces relate to each other in a movable-fulcrum system, with the shorter end of the lever requiring a stronger force to balance.
