Mayar Sherif Becomes First Egyptian To Win WTA Event || AfroSport Now

Mayar Sherif has become the first Egyptian to ever win a WTA Tour event after beating top-seeded Maria Sakkari in two straight sets at the Parma Ladies Open on Saturday. Prior to this final, Sherif has never beaten any player in the top 10, but she notched her first win over a top-10 opponent with a score of 7-5 6-3, while recording her first ever title. Mayar Sherif’s feat comes after Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur became the first African to win a WTA title and also reached the Wimbledon and US Open finals this year
