The rose was proud of her bright red petals. She often looked at the cactus nearby and said— “Look at you! You are ugly and full of thorns. But look at me—I am so beautiful.” The cactus felt sad but did not reply. He stayed kind and silent. One hot summer, there was no rain. The desert became dry, and all the animals had no water to drink. The rose, too, began to wither. She saw a little bird drinking water from the cactus. Surprised, the rose asked— “How do you get water?” The bird replied— “The cactus stores water inside. He is helping all of us survive this heat.” Ashamed, the rose bowed her head and said to the cactus— “I was wrong to judge you. Can you please share some water with me?” The cactus smiled and kindly gave water to the rose. From that day, the rose and the cactus became good friends.
