Postal Employee Suspended for Mail Theft

A suspect accused of targeting veterans and their medication may no longer be in business. Last month, News Channel 9 told you about an investigation into the theft of medication at a local postal sorting facility.Now, authorities believe they may have caught the culprit.Steve Waller says it's something he never thought would happen. After hearing over and over again that oh yes we're on it. Don't worry about it. It's under investigation. We'll take care of it on our side. Don't go any further we've got it.Waller first reached out to us back in November. For the last two and a half years, the VA clinic has mailed monthly Hydrocodone pills to help him treat pain from a number of medical problems.But lately, almost every high dosage bottle sent through the USPS disappeared at the post office. Waller says he reached out to everyone he could think of for help. To go to the police, to go to the local and federal government, to go to my congressman and get nothing! Each agency each individual I contacted wanted to pass it off to someone else and say oh that's not our problem to deal with that. It's not our jurisdiction.But finally, after our story aired, a special agent with USPS confirmed that one employee has now been suspended. It took a matter of 3 weeks after talking to you guys and contacting Channel 9 and you that something was done.While progress has been made, Waller says he'll never understand why it took so long. The frustration...the number of weeks that I had to suffer with pain because I didn't have my medication... I'll never get that back.The inspector tells us that they do plan to prosecute the suspect in the case. Waller says he plans to help in any way to make sure that justice is served.by Mikaya Thurmond
