Joan Baez -- Oh, Freedom

"OH FREEDOM" is an African-American spiritual dating from the Civil War. The author is unknown. It was recorded by Odetta on her first-ever album in 1956 and became an anthem of the Civil Rights movement of the 1950's and 60's. When Martin Luther King gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech on August 28, 1963 in Washington, D.C., Joan Baez opened the day's events by singing this song in front of nearly 250,000 civil rights supporters. She was followed by Odetta who sang "I'm On My Way," then by Peter, Paul, and Mary who performed their hit version of Bob Dylan's "Blowin' in the Wind," and finally by Dylan himself with his new song, "Only a Pawn in Their Game."
