Mount Pleasant Level Crossing, Southampton, Hampshire on the South West Main Line and West Coastway Line. Location: Mount Plesant Road, Southampton Date Filmed: 08-04-2019 - Nearest Station: St Denys - Trains: Class 377 (Southern) Class 377 (Southern) Class 450 (South Western Railway) ~ Class 450 (South Western Railway) Class 220 (CrossCountry) The busiest level crossing in Hampshire, near Northam Junction and Northam Depot and Southampton city centre. This crossing has four tracks with a slow line and a faster line for both directions. There are bells inside the barriers. This crossing is, at current statistics in January 2020, the busiest level crossing in Hampshire and the busiest road crossing in the UK! There can be up-to 21 trains passing in an hour, equating to one every (just under) 3 minutes. Whilst filming for around 45 minutes here, the crossing spent more time lowered than raised. There are signs stating that long delays can occur, and that vehicle engines should be switched off. The crossing raised and lowered again within a very short space of time. Unfortunately, I stopped recording just as the crossing activated again, so therefore there is a slight cut in the video. Thanks For Watching!
