Guyana, July 18: Sunil Narine has become the first bowler in Twenty20 cricket history to bowl a maiden in Super Over, during the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) yesterday (July 17). Narine bowled a wicket-maiden in the Super Over in the CPL game between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Red Steel at the Providence Stadium. Offspinner Narine, who plays for Warriors, did not concede a run in the Super Over and also took a wicket off the fifth ball. Warriors, chasing 119 for a win, finished level with Red Steel as they ended with 118/8 in 20 overs. Warriors, captained by Denesh Ramdin, had won the toss and fielded. Recently, there was controversy around Red Steel as captain Dwayne Bravo was furious with "Trinidad and Tobago" dropped from the franchise name. In the Super Over, Warriors scored 11/1. In reply, Narine bowled four dot balls (all played and missed) in a row to wicketkeeper-batsman Nicolas Pooran and had him caught at long-off by Martin Guptill on the fifth delivery. The sixth and final ball was played and missed by Ross Taylor. Pooran, during the match, had hit Narine for 11 runs in 4 balls but could not put bat on ball in the Super Over from the mystery spinner. During the innings, Narine had figures of 2/23 in 4 overs. In the chase, he scored 16 runs off 19 with 1 six, batting at 8. Narine's sensational wicket-maiden over was appreciated by many, on Twitter. His IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders congratulated him for the achievement.
