Wide of fire engine and people at scene STORYLINE A building was destroyed by an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza town of Khan Younis on Wednesday, Palestinian sources said. The sources said the targeted house was understood to be the home of a senior Islamic Jihad leader. AP Television cannot independently verify the claim. No casualties were reported in the strike, which left a large crater in the ground and reduced the building to a pile of rubble. The airstrike came as Israel rejected mounting international pressure to suspend its devastating air offensive against Palestinian militants whose rocket barrages were striking ominously close to the Israeli heartland. For a fifth day Israel sent warplanes to demolish purported smuggling tunnels that are believed to be the lifeline of Gaza's Islamic Hamas rulers. The diplomatic action has been set in motion by the scale of destruction in Gaza since Israel unleashed its campaign on Saturday, and a casualty toll that Gaza officials now put at 390 dead and some 1,600 wounded. Hamas says some 200 uniformed members of Hamas security forces have been killed, and the UN says 60 Palestinian civilians have died. Four Israelis have been killed by militant rocket fire, including three civilians, since saturday.
