UN General Assembly expected to adopt resolution on N. Korea human rights: U.S. envoy

The UN General Assembly is expected to adopt a new resolution on North Korea's human rights violations. Speaking at a briefing in Washington D.C., Robert King, the U.S. State Department's Special Envoy for North Korean Human Rights Issues, said the U.S. is also hoping to raise the issue of North Korea's human rights at the Security Council. The UN previously adopted resolutions on the North's human rights in 2014 and 2015. This year's resolution is also expected to include a call to refer the issue to the International Criminal Court. If so, it would be the third consecutive year the General Assembly has made the recommendation. The draft resolution is expected in October.
