SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson: "If House Speaker Pelosi visits Taiwan, it will seriously violate the one-China principle and the provisions of the three U.S.-China joint communiqués, seriously undermine China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, seriously impact the political foundation of U.S.-China relations, and send an extremely wrong signal to the separatist forces of Taiwan independence. China is firmly opposed to this and has made solemn complaints with the U.S." 4. Mid of journalists 5. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson: "If the U.S. side is bent on going its own way, China will take firm and robust measures to resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and all consequences arising from this must be completely borne by the U.S. side." 6. Wide of journalists 7. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson: "The way to settle the Taiwan issue is an internal matter of China, and no country has the right to interfere. The Chinese people's determination and will to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity are unwavering. We stand ready to make the utmost effort to strive for peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity, but we reserve the option to take all necessary measures against foreign interference and secessionist activities of a handful of 'Taiwan independence' elements." 8. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin)  Zhao Lijian, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson: "If they (the cybersecurity company) really care about global cyber security, they should pay more attention to cyber attacks by the U.S. government hackers on China and other countries, and do more to help promote dialogue and cooperation among countries, instead of using cyber attack to stir up trouble and throw mud at China. 10. Wide of news conference STORYLINE: China on Thursday demanded the U.S. immediately cancel the planned visit by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan. The visit would "seriously impact the political foundation of U.S.-China relations, and send a serious wrong signal to the separatist forces of Taiwan independence," said Zhao Lijian, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, at a daily news briefing. "If the U.S. side is bent on going its own way, China will take firm and robust measures to resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity, and all consequences arising from this must be completely borne by the U.S. side," Zhao warned. Pelosi is scheduled to visit Taiwan on Sunday after a trip to Japan, according to media reports. Beijing regards Taiwan as a renegade province and has not ruled out the use of force to unify the island with the mainland. "The way to settle the Taiwan issue is an internal matter of China, and no country has the right to interfere," Zhao reasserted at the briefing following U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's warning that the Biden administration would sanction China if it moved aggressively against Taiwan. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has recently drawn fresh attention to China's threat to use force to annex self-governing democratic Taiwan. Asked about a cybersecurity company's report that a state-sponsored Chinese group has conducted long-term cyber attacks on India's power sector, Zhao said he noted the report and reiterated the country's opposition to cyber attacks. =========================================================== Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter:   / ap_archive   Facebook:   / aparchives    Instagram:   / apnews   You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/you...
