Ralph Grasso was predominantly a guitarist and orchestrator for film and TV. His career began in New York, where he had his own musical TV show. He then appeared as a guest soloist on the Ed Sullivan Show and became musical arranger / conductor / guitarist for Jimmie Rodgers (who produced this 45) for five years. An active studio musician, he backed recording and TV names such as Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Anthony Newley, Andy Williams, and too many others to mention. His motion picture work includes films like Thunder Road, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Hang 'Em High, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Lady In Cement, On A Clear Day and so on. Anyway, this dark, sleazy, fuzzy crime jazz gem is, I'm guessing, taken from the 1963 French movie of the same name. Or inspired by it? Or not. Who knows? Not me, that's for sure, but I sure as hell do dig this one to death. Hope you will too.
