Hope your year is going well so far and filled with things to look forward to. I wanted to start with my first Pokemon arrangement in the channel's history! Although definitely a long time coming given I played a lot of Pokemon growing up, especially during the Ruby/Sapphire & Diamond/Pearl eras. So where better to start than with an iconic track from Diamond & Pearl. While I'm yet to tackle Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, I do vividly remember the crushing brutality of facing off against Cynthia years ago, especially with the backdrop of an unforgettable theme that contains so many elements that make a Pokemon track great. Recreating this took a lot of detailed listening and re-listening. It's one of those pieces where it's easy to make assumptions about the notes you're hearing and phrases within the music, especially when it comes to the more chaotic sections towards the end of the piece. So for this I went for a combination of accuracy while also adding my own spin on certain sections by changing the instrumentation from the original. Given the original is synth based and the newer version still maintains those synth elements, I decided to largely replace the harsh sounding synths with strings. Then it was a case of working out what other orchestral instruments were the natural replacements for the instruments in the original, and if there's any new instruments I could add which would help to create this epic orchestral feel. Listening to both the original and the new version helped a lot in this regard.
