MCD 2017 Congress eyes Delhi, Rahul Gandhi to launch campaign for municipal election

With the Assembly elections in five states drawing to a close, the Congress is gearing up for its next big battle--the municipal corporation polls in Delhi. The party has roped in bigwigs for the election campaign. Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi will kick off the campaign with a rally at Ramlila Maidan. Delhi Congress leader said the involvement of Rahul Gandhi in the campaign will boost the morale of party workers. On Monday, Congress leaders P Chidambaram and Jyotiraditya Scindia released the party's blueprint to make Municipal Corporation of Delhi self-reliant. The Congress got a drubbing in the Assembly election in 2015 with the Aam Aadmi Party sweeping 67 of the 70 seats. The BJP won the remaining three seats. The MCD polls are likely to take place in April and with the AAP launching its campaign, the Congress too is building momentum. The party's poll slogan this time is: "Bahane Kum, Karyengaye Vikas, Anubhav Hai Humare Pass". According to party insiders, Congress' Delhi unit will seek votes in the name of development and the party's past experience in running the city.
