When it comes to breast cancer screening, there are many different types including breast self exam, physical exam, and mammography. The American Cancer Society no longer recommends breast self examination, but instead recommends that women maintain a "heightened awareness of what's normal for them." They do recommend that women get a clinical breast examination from their doctor every three years. The American Cancer society recommends that women begin mammography every year at the age of 40. Women at high risk are recommended to being annual mammography at the age of 30. The U.S. Preventative Task Force Services recommends beginning mammography every two years at the age of 50 and continuing until age 74.
