Chat in Teams: 3 tips for reducing distractions and noise

Microsoft Teams Chat is one of the most popular features in the Teams platform. My issue with Chat, which I use daily, is the amount of noise and distractions it causes. I created this short video to show three tips for reducing chat distractions and noise. 0:00 intro 0:35 turn off chat banners 3:12 Mute a chat 4:30 Do Not Disturb Tip # 1 - Turn off Banners for Chat messages. This will turn off all banner messages. I already have Teams running and with Pop-out chat, I don't need to see the banner message. I find them distracting. They are also distracting during Teams Meetings. To turn off Banner messages for chats. 1) Go to your profile picture in the top right. 2) Go to Settings 3) Click Notifications 4) Click Off Note - there is no save or apply. Tip # 2 - Mute a chat. Muting a chat works for one person at a time. I can mute multiple people but I have to mute them individually. Even if banners are turned on, you will not get banner notifications. Even the Chat icon in the navigation bar on the left does not show the chat until you click on it. The person will be in bold once you click on chat to show chats you've received while that person was muted. To mute a chat. 1) Click the three dots next to a person 2) Click Mute The icon for that person changes to mute. Tip # 3 - Do Not Disturb. This applies to all at one time. You will get notified of chats, but you will not get banner notifications.
