Wilhelm Busch - The Pious Helene (audiobook) German

Heinrich Christian Wilhelm Busch (born April 15, 1832, in Wiedensahl; died January 9, 1908, in Mechtshausen) was one of Germany's most influential humorous poets and illustrators. He was also a painter influenced by Dutch masters. His first illustrated stories appeared as single-sheet prints starting in 1859. They were first published in book form in 1864 under the title "Bilderpossen" (Picture Pranks). Famous throughout Germany since the 1870s, he was considered a "classic of German humor" at his death, thanks to his extremely popular illustrated stories.[1] As a pioneer of comics, he created, among other works, Max and Moritz, Fipps the Monkey, The Pious Helene, Plisch and Plum, Hans Huckebein the Unlucky Raven, the Knopp Trilogy, and other works that remain popular today. He often satirized the characteristics of certain types or social groups, such as the complacency and hypocrisy of the petit bourgeois or the piety of clergy and laity. Many of his couplets have become fixed expressions in German, e.g., "Becoming a father isn't difficult, being one, on the other hand, is" or "This was the first prank, but the second will follow immediately."
