A Service of Lessons and Carols for Advent The original Service of Twelve Lessons and Carols was first drawn up by Archbishop Benson, Church of England, when he was Bishop of Truro, Cornwall, for use at Truro Cathedral. It was later simplified and shortened to nine lessons for use in King's College Chapel, in Cambridge, by the Very Reverend Eric Milner-White. Our service today is a blend of the shorter service and our own order of worship.
