Gideon- Scapegoat (Guitar and Vocals Cover | 2021)

I decided to re-upload this video as there were some numerous minor details that really bugged me, so I decided to go back to the drawing board and fix some of those issues. I found myself listening to this album (Cold) a lot over the course of last year as a lot of the songs are very in touch with a lot of the issues going on in the world, and, more notably, in my own country (United States). The ongoing pandemic and spending time in self-quarantine has not been the worst experience for me. What has been a major pain in the ass is the attitude that everyone has had surrounding the unfortunate circumstances we all find ourselves in. Up until recently, this was not a song I particularly enjoyed as much as other tracks off of “Cold.” BUT, after the countless times I was accosted by strangers surrounding the virus and the ongoing pandemic, it began to take on a new meaning for me. Racism is something I often loathe discussing as the discussions surrounding it all too often get caught in sociopolitical crosstalk, which negatively impacts an already negative social interaction that everyone has experienced at least once in their lifetime. Rather than simply going onto social media and continuously ranting and pointing fingers surrounding this issue, I created this cover video instead. I believe it is far better to scream into a microphone than in someone else’s face about why I’m pissed off. We’ve all dealt with our own fair share of negativity over the past year, but the choice to use that to be constructive is up to us. I know there are times last year when I wasn’t my best self, which is why I needed to come back and do more covers. I don’t really care about being famous on YouTube (although that would be pretty damn cool), I just do this because it’s what I love and it challenges me to be a better musical artist.
