SOUNDBITE: (English) Professor Ghafoor Ahmed, Leader of MMA (Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal): "The main point is that Israel should vacate Palestine and Palestinian muslims should be allowed to offer their prayer in (inaudible) and all these atrocities committed by Israel in Lebanon or in Palestine of any other country of the world should be stopped and if there is a (inaudible) between Israel and America it is I think a great danger between peace of the world." 22. Wide of protesters carrying placard and banners STORYLINE: Over six thousand protesters gathered in the streets of Islamabad and Karachi on Friday to mark the annual al-Quds Day, or Jerusalem Day, that takes place on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan. Al-Quds is the Arabic name for Jerusalem. Some 2-thousand people gathered in Islamabad carrying Hezbollah banners and chanting anti-American slogans. One banner read "Israel army go back from Quds". Demonstrators burnt US and Israeli flags, and an an effigy of Israel. One protester said; "if you believe in God and his prophet Muhammad then remember Israel will finish soon, the fear of some bubble of American power will burst very soon, the existence of Israel will finish very soon." Meanwhile, hundreds of muslims gathered at Islamabad's Faisal Mosque for the last Friday prayers of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, scheduled to end on Sunday. In the southern port city of Karachi about 4-thousand people, including around 1-thousand women, marched through a busy street lined by riot police. Chants of "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" were heard, but no violence was reported. Professor Ghafoor Ahmed, leader of Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal (an Islamic coalition group) said "the main point is that Israel should vacate Palestine". Hundreds of people carried portraits of late Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon. Pakistani Shiites revere Shiite religious leaders from Iran and other Middle Eastern countries. Jerusalem is the third-holiest site in Islam after the Saudi Arabian cities of Mecca and Medina.
