ONLY ON FOX: Officer Languishes on 'Green Mile' for Weeks for Cursing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Our exclusive "Green Mile" investigation reveals metro police officers stripped of their guns and badges and forced to sit in the lobby at police headquarters for months at a time on your dime. Officer Shane McCormick hasn't been allowed to work in more than six weeks for saying a curse word. McComick say this punishment doesn't fit the crime. He worked as a school resource officer at Stratford High School and staff members have signed a petition hoping to get him back. The chief stripped him of his badge and put him on the green mile. "I knew the moment that I was being decommissioned that I was losing the best part of my career," said McCormick. "I'm going to miss those kids." Stripped of his badge and gun, McCormick's been sitting in the CJC lobby for 8 hours a day, five days a week, waiting for the department to "investigate" his behavior and come up with his punishment. "I just take it a day at a time," said McCormick. "If the chief wants me to leave, I will gladly leave. I want to be made whole again. Give me my punishment. If you want me to leave, I will gladly move on. Nobody, no police officer deserves to be treated in this manner." McCormick says he's been sitting in the lobby ever since he told on himself. He confessed to the profanity before the video ever came to light. "What is left to investigate? I gave them everything they needed -- the witness list, the videos. I gave them everything," he said. "There was no reason to decommission him," said Daphne Davis, McCormick's attorney. His attorney says officers who swear get written reprimands or a couple days suspension but McCormick doesn't know his fate, "Why does it take 52 days from the day I self-disclosed, 52 calendar days on a profanity complaint that I reported to my chain of command and you're telling me it takes 52 days? The evidence is right there. It is what it is. There is the policy. That's what I violated. Give me my disciplinary action and let's move on." FOX 17 has received dozens of letters from officers upset with the chief's police to put officers under investigation in the lobby and keep them there for months at time. As for McCormick, despite w petition from teachers at Stratford High supporting him, he won't be back. All while the department continues to investigate something clearly caught on camera. McCormick met with the chief Monday who still hasn't given him his actual punishment. Instead, the chief is putting him in the records department starting Tuesday where he will remain decommissioned until the department finishes its investigation. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook:   / foxnashville   WZTV on Twitter:   / foxnashville   Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube:    / @fox17nashville   Daily News Playlist:    • Playlist   For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
