Published by Square Enix, Tomb Raider is the fifth title developed by Crystal Dynamics in the Tomb Raider franchise. As the first entry in a new Tomb Raider continuity, the game is a reboot that emphasizes the reconstructed origins of the culturally influential lead character Lara Croft.[3][4] Tomb Raider was released on 5 March 2013 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows Setting out to "make [her] mark", Lara travels on the ship Endurance commanded by Conrad Roth, an old friend of the Croft family and former Royal Marine. Reyes, Roth's lover, as well as several specialists are onboard: Alex, a computer specialist; Jonah, a fisherman; Grim, the Scottish helmsman of the Endurance; Samantha, Lara's old college friend; and Dr. Whitman, a celebrity archeologist who is desperate to make a big find and escape bankruptcy. The group are searching for the lost Japanese nation of Yamatai; against Dr. Whitman's protests, the ship follows Lara's advice and enters the Dragon's Triangle, an area renowned for causing ships to disappear. When the ship is struck by a violent storm and split in two, Lara awakens on a beach but is knocked unconscious by an unknown assailant and awakens tied up in a cave.
