Railfanning Kirkwood, MO (Tuesday, March 27, 2012)

Today was the day I had been waiting for ever since the announcement had came from Union Pacific. It was the return of the Union Pacific 844 steam locomotive. Lucky for me, my mom signed me off school and I got to go enjoy a beautiful afternoon in Kirkwood, MO with my good buddy Chris. I also was able to hang out with some fellow railfanners and friends, Ryan (UPdetector), Kevin (CQDX018), (railfanatic844) and Mike (TrainmanKight). Caught ten trains total! Enjoy!!!! KIRKWOOD, MO: No sooner than I arrived at Kirkwood, the Amtrak 314 pulled into the station heading east into Saint Louis, MO. Train 1: UP AMT314 27 AMTK P42DC 186 After the Amtrak cleared up, the railfans started showing up and it just kept getting better and better! Here we have a empty coal train starting its descent down Kirkwood hill. Train 2: UP CJONA9 26 UP C44AC 6614 UP C6044AC 7317 Following the empty coal train was this complete surprise with a Herzog ballast train. Train 3: UP WGHSFZ 24 UP SD70M 4335 UP C44-9W 9666 UP SD70M 4913 After the westbound ballast train passed, the Indianapolis, IN to North Platte, NE manifest passed with quite an impressive lash up!
